This Must Be The Place

I am a 24 year-old singer-songwriter.

I will finish my screenplay at some point.

In no specific order and with equal passion, I love music, sports, movies, beauty and humor.

I struggle each day to find meaning in this life and intend to keep an open mind and a positive attitude.

MoMa, The Walkmen & RNC

I am sitting here watching the widely acclaimed Sigur Ros performance at the Museum of Modern Art this past June.  It is being shown on a cable channel called Current. My brother just said that it made him feel like John Belushi in Animal House when he comes down the stairs and smashes that guy’s guitar.  He’s not a philistine, he just likes to make fun of things that are only done by certain amounts of people; like all things hipster, all things Nascar, you get the idea.  I must say that at first glance they seem like foreign crybabies backed by a high school band that plays at halftime.  But I love them. You can watch it here.

The Walkmen’s new album You & Me is on my top three of the year so far.  This album is so well constructed as far as sound and song placement.  It is a true album experience; ironically containing one of the best singles of the year in “In the New Year.”  The lyrics contain some of the most beautiful images I have heard in a while and his vocal delivery reminds me of Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine.

Oh, where to begin with Sarah Palin.  I suppose no one else wanted the opportunity.  Wouldn’t it be funny if the baby that we keep seeing her child hold was really her daughter’s child?  And in a couple weeks, the daughter “happens” to have an abortion?  Just thinking outside the box.  Anyway, to commemorate the most unfortunate decision the GOP has had to deal with recently and the biggest boost for the Dems is Dr. Dog’s “Alaska.”

Well how’re the mountains off the harbor?
And how far are you from shore?
And when your ship, oh when your ship comes into port
Would you call? Oh, would you call?
In that cabin in Montana,
Was that donkey getting drunk?
Well it’s been hell back in Philidelphia
Now New York ain’t what it was

No, You know Grandpa’s washing dishes
He does it when he can
Tryin’ to get this fire started
And I could really use a hand
The dog is barking out back
He thinks he’s in the band
Trying to get this fire started

And I could really use a hand
And I dreamt where we’re at the station
And you asked me if you could go
And I never really had the chance to say no

Well it’s night time in Alaska
I hear it’s dark until the spring
Well it’s been hell back in Philidelphia
Now New York ain’t what it was

No, You know grandpa’s washing dishes
He does it when he can
Tryin’ to get this fire started
And I could really use a hand
The dog is barking out back
He thinks he’s in the band
Trying to get this fire started
And I could really use a hand

Well I dreamt where we’re at the station
And you asked me if you could go
And I never really had the chance to say no
