It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the best comedy on TV.  Can’t wait until Sept. 18 for the new season.  It makes me feel good inside my body to think about the show and it’s wonderful cast members.  And their bodies…

MoMa, The Walkmen & RNC
I am sitting here watching the widely acclaimed Sigur Ros performance at the Museum of Modern Art this past June.  It is being shown on a cable channel called Current. My brother just said that it made him feel like John Belushi in Animal House when he comes down the stairs and smashes that guy’s guitar.  He’s not a philistine, he just likes to make fun of things that are only done by...

DR. DOG @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 8/26/08
Williamsburg is an interesting town.  My sensibilities protect me from flocking but it is hard to avoid its charm.  Each bar, each store, each inhabitant are pretty consistent with my tastes and the music is unmistakably supple.  Philadelphia, the city that drowns me in pride, is very, very different but that is not for now. Let’s talk about the openers.  The first band I did not know and...

Frank McElroy, lead guitarist of Dr. Dog and I had a funny conversation as he set up @ Music Hall of Williamsburg on Tuesday night… Me: “Hey Frank, I’m Andrew Jones’ cousin!” (AJ is former Dr. Dog guitarist) Frank: “Hey man. Aren’t you from Philly?” Me: “Yeah!” Frank: “What are you doing up here?” Me: “Uh, just...

DNC: FINKLE IS EINHORN, EINHORN IS FINKLE
I’m gonna make this short because I’m tired. 1) Politics are as pointless as American Idol.  That doesn’t mean the hoopla isn’t fun 2) Obama has already won this election.   3) Bill Clinton is the fucking man. (“Abroad, people have always admired our power of example rather than the example of our power.”) 4) “I did not have sexual relations with that...

yvynyl: dorothythinks: So all of my friends here know this but for my friends elsewhere, here is the most insane thing to happen in Philadelpha in the last week…which is saying a lot. Last night, there was a concert in Philadelphia in Rittenhouse Square of the Philly band Capitol Years. About 1,000 people were there watching. A reader of Philebrity.com elaborates on what happened (and no, it...

BIDEN: STUD FROM UD DOES GOOD
Upon hearing the news of Barack-around-the-clock Obama choice of VP, I couldn’t help be overwhelmed with pride.  Pride for the mighty state of Delaware.  Yes, yes I attended the same college as the future (let’s be honest here) vice-president.  It’s quite the feeling. Obama-Biden ‘08!!

BYRNE: REAL FREEDOM- ESCAPE FROM OIL.
Byrne and Brian Eno’s newest creation has been on repeat in my car for the last ten days.  It is transcendent.  I could hear some similarities between the music (all the music was written exclusively by Eno) on this album and that of Coldplay’s Eno-produced Viva La Vida.  Echo-laden acoustic guitar tracks and  metronome-electronic percussion are prominently featured in both.  Anyway,...
